As American as a Gibson guitar or a Stetson® hat, the American Mined™ Collection is a new line of faceted stones, cabochons and beads created for jewelers and metalsmiths who believe the source matters.
We combed the United States in search of the finest American gemstones, visiting artisan mines, meeting with enterprising do-it-yourself miners and examining hundreds of rough stones along the way. The result is a collection of exceptional gems that allows you to trace a stone from the mine to your bench.
Launching with sunstone and fire opal, the collection will grow as we develop new relationships with mines across America. Check back often for new additions, and introduce the American Mined™ Collection to your most discerning clients.
Our American Mined™ Lake County Fire Opal™ offers a deep, rich color not found among traditional opals. The fiery reds and oranges it displays are the result of fine traces of iron oxide in the stone's composition. This dramatic gemstone is the only natural opal that is suitable for faceting; it is also available in cabochons and beads.
Our Lake County Fire Opal™ is responsibly mined in the southern reaches of central Oregon. Operated by a small team of artisan miners and genuine gem hounds, the mine sits amid mountainous landscapes of pine trees and picturesque lakes. The stones themselves are unearthed from a trench in the mountainside using a method that has a low impact on the surrounding environment.
The American Mined™ Savannah Sunstone™ is an exotic yet adaptable gemstone that displays a delicate champagne color and brilliant clarity with few inclusions. Available in faceted round, oval and princess cuts that maximize light refraction and color, it is a rare American beauty.
Our Savannah Sunstone™ is responsibly mined along the Oregon-California border against a moonscape-like backdrop of rolling flatlands and sunbaked desert vistas. Sunstone forms naturally in volcanic conditions, and the Sunstone Butte Mine is situated on the side of an extinct volcano. It is operated by a local couple who live on the claim for much of the year, and the land the mine sits on will be remediated when the mining operations are complete. You can read more about the Sunstone Butte Mine on the Rio Grande blog.
